The following video is from a featured speaker interactive workshop I conducted for parents attending The Expanding Your Horizons Conference at UCF in February, 2010. The Goal of The Expanding Your Horizons Organization is to expose middle-school female students to science, technology, engineering, and math careers. During the one-day conference girls attend hands-on STEM workshops. Parents attend workshops throughout the day as well. During the one hour featured workshop parents explored and analyzed patterns, shapes, and structures in nature and made correlations to science, technology, engineering, and math concepts.

The following video is from a featured speaker interactive workshop I conducted for parents attending the Expanding Your Horizons Conference at UCF in February, 2009. The Goal of The Expanding Your Horizons Organization and conferences is to expose middle-school female students to science, technology, engineering, and math careers. During the one-day conference girls attend hands-on STEM workshops. Parents attend workshops throughout the day as well. During the one hour interactive workshop I conducted parents used scientific tools to explore objects from nature. The emphasis was placed on observing the various structures, designs, and patterns in nature and how man has borrowed models found in nature in designing and building modern inventions. Key concepts introduced to participants included: biomimicry, interconnectedness of all the sciences, Leonardo DaVinci’s impact on modern-day inventions, patterns in nature, Fibonacci sequence, seed dispersal, science of aerodynamics bird wings to airplane wings. Session closed with parents observing live terrestrial garden snails and pill bugs. Correlations were made to structure and function of the anatomy of the snail and pill bug body shape and design.

The following video is of an interactive keynote presentation I provided for the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota. The keynote topic was entitled “Overcoming Your Fears Of Teaching Science and Math.” Approximately 400 early childhood teachers participated in hands-on-minds-on explorations that reinforced the keynote message. Participants explored objects from nature, made connections to mathematical concepts, observed live garden snails and pill bugs, built a paper model helicopter to explore gravity and seed dispersal. Great group of participants, wonderful organization. Participants were totally immersed in the presentation, and actively involved in the learning process. Of course this results in positive long-term benefits to all the participants and all of their students for years to come. Thanks for having me present Early Childhood Coalition of Sarasota. * Note the presentation was 1 hour 15 min, these are just sample clips.

The following video is of an interactive keynote presentation I provided for over 400 early childhood educators in south Florida. The keynote topic was entitled “Cultivating The Young Child’s Natural Curiosity.” Participants participated in hands-on explorations that reinforced the keynote message. Participants were given a wide-assortment of objects to explore that reinforced science concepts including: the animal and plant kingdom, sound waves, bubbles, and more…. My goal as always was to motivate the participants to conduct science explorations with their young students on a daily basis, additionally to stress the importance of cultivating the young child’s natural curiosity. Science lends itself naturally for cultivating and nurturing curiosity in the young child. Great group of participants as always, active learning taking place.
